WEST HAM defender Pablo Zabaleta has joined the BBC team for the 2018 World Cup this summer.

The 33-year-old, who played for Argentina in the last World Cup in Brazil, will be amongst a pundit team of Alan Shearer, Phil Neville, Danny Murphy and Alex Scott.

Who is Pablo Zabaleta?

ZABALETA is a Argentinian defender who currently plays for Premier League side West Ham.

The 33-year-old joined the club in May 2017 on a free transfer and signed a two-year contract.

After starting his career at San Lorenzo in Argentina and Espanyol in Spain, he moved to Manchester City in 2008 after rejecting an offer with Juventus.

During his time at City he made 230 appearances and quickly became a fan favourite and stalwart member of the team.

The defender was part of the side which won the Premier League in the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons as well as the FA Cup, Community Shield and two Football League cups.

Zabaleta made his senior Argentinian debut in 2005 after receiving 75 caps for the youth teams.

He was a member of the side which won gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 but was not selected for the 2010 World Cup.

Is he married and does he have children?

ZABALETA married his Spanish long-term girlfriend Christel Castano in June 2013. 

They welcomed a baby boy in April 2015 in Manchester.

He is called Asier.

When is the World Cup?

ENGLAND travel out to Russia on Tuesday, June 12 before their World Cup campaign starts on Monday, June 18 with their first group match against Tunisia. 

In Group G they will also face Panama (Sunday, June 24) and Belgium (Thursday, June 28).

If they win their group, England will face the runners-up of Group H which consists of Colombia, Japan, Poland and Senegal.

The final of the World Cup will be held on Sunday, July 15.
